Offices of the U.S. Department of Education

This exercise was done in an exploration of diagrams at California College of the Arts in 2017. This resource serves as a way to navigate the various offices in the U.S. Department of Education which are not clearly listed and organized on their website. In order to serve as a directory, this resource provides all of the main offices, smaller offices, and subdivisions colour coded according to their position under the Office Of The Secretary, Office Of The Deputy Secretary, and Office Of The Under Secretary. Each office has one sentence from it's Overview on the Department of Education website.

I used a text analysis of the word-use frequency of each office’s Overview on the U.S. Department of Education website. For each office 5 keywords were produced to reflect the most commonly used words over 4 letters long. If there were words that were similar (singular and plural), the words were combined and the sixth most commonly used word was included. Using keywords can help to understand the topics that each office is concerned with, as well as the relationships between offices based on their commonalities.

I challenged myself by limiting my type to Geneva Regular for the entire piece, and used colour only as a code of categorization. This poster was exhibited in the Level 3 Review Exhibition from May 4-5, 2017 at California College of the Arts in San Francisco.
