2009: PEPSI - REFRESH YOUR CITY
architectural competition organised by pepsi
architectural competition organised by pepsi
office/culture
LOCATION: Warsaw, Poland
DESIGN: 2009
COMPLETION: idea
AWARDS: -
AUTHORS/COOPERATION: Jacek Dudkiewicz, Milena Trzcińska, Marta Kowalska
Competition feature was to bring to life one of the most important buildings in Warsaw - skyscrapper called "Palace of Culture". It was build in 1955 as "Josef Stalin's Palace" and for over 44 years symbolised soviet domination over Poland. For younger generations it is just high-rise building in middle of capital city. One of the proposals was to create glass second skin, termicly isolative and responsive for outside signals so it could reflect current "city mood". By sending an e-mail, sms, or giving any kind of digital sign users inform glass skin application about their moods - after receiving this information new facade can react and adapt, showing on of the colors programmed. Changing colors and informative new role of this skyline dominant refreshes our City.
Second proposal speculated how Palace of Culture could be re-used for a night club. Turning it upside-down and adding 3 diagonal elevators made its functional structure usable again.
