The story
''Mona Lisa Meets Buddha'' Spencer Holst
Up in heaven the curtains fluttered, the curtains fluttered, and the Mona Lisa entered at one end of a small hall, which was hung with many veils. Up in heaven the curtains fluttered, fluttered, fluttered, and the Buddha entered the hall at the other end. They smiled.

Director's statement

The story of Spencer Holst “Mona Lisa meets Buddha” is at the same time very precise and very vague. It leaves you with the question of why they smiled.

In my interpretation of the story a man and a woman come to the library to gain more knowledge on the subject that they are interested in. When they find the book they were looking for, they discover the other person standing at the other end of the bookcase. And when their eyes meet they see in each other the character that they came searching for. And they smile.

The third character is the library. It is a place where both Mona Lisa and Buddha exist at any given time. All the knowledge and thoughts that are created about them in the end meet in the library.
