Universal Public Space

City and Society in the Post-Industrial Glocal Age

As the group discussed what topics we would like to pursue in the workshop, one theme came to attention: Public space, or more precisely it’s lack in Moscow’s residential neighbourhoods. So our team decided to search for a solution.
It was decided that a universal system for the organization of these public spaces would be effective, while being adaplive to the precise situation. Thus we came up whith the Universal Public Space Unit. It consists of three elements: Specialized Yard, Connecting Bulevard and Community Square. These are building blocks that make up a Public Space Network. This system creates a safe network of pedestrian passages between the different specialized yards and the main community square. Each yard has its own function, like a playground, or a garden, or a sports ground, or a dog playground. This way different groups of people don’t interfere with each other and the space can be used to full capacity. The connecting boulevards provide a route for people that avoids the cars, making it safer for them to move around their neighbourhood. And the community square
