As Wearable Technology Project

The brief of this project was to consider a wearable piece of technology that could potentially aid, add or improve the users experiences. At first I decided to simply develop a collapsible walking aid that could be worn around the neck or wrist, to encourage use by making the product portable. Throughout this project I have been constantly researching and developing different ways to ensure an ergonomic handle design. I have also worked to develop a working cam piece in order to successfully make the walking aid collapsible and more discreet. Both of these features within the product were created using 3D printing technology, which ensures the product is not too heavy. As the project progressed, I considered other features that could make the product differ from existing models. I considered a concept idea that would enable users to use the aid as a hand held navigation device. I developed a concept screen idea that could be incorporated into the handle which would display the location of the user through GPS technology, or simply give directions just like Google maps. For an added safety feature I considered a concealed button for emergencies, such as falls or accidents when out and about, that when pressed would send a signal to emergency services, allowing them to see the location of the user through the GPS technology and send appropriate help. The design could be developed further to include a pulse monitor.
