Limited Edition Jackie Kennedy Doll

"The midnight blue Presidential Limousine, the red roses, the pink Chanel suit, and Jackie Kennedy."

A combination of images have been used in the inspiration of this doll: the AndyWarhol print "Jackie 1964"; press photographs from the morning of November 22,1963 at Love Field; and photos of Jackie and Bobby Kennedy after the death other husband. I was inspired to make this doll as a way of blending my interestsin fashion and 20th-century icons ranging from Marilyn Monroe to Jackie herself. As I began to research the outfit she wore on the morning of November 22, thingsjust did not make sense, including the relative scarcity of colored photographs. I wanted to document a piece of history which I had not been alive toexperience, by creating a piece of art which reflected the terrible appeal of anenduring image: the Chanel suit -- an icon unto itself -- now transformed byblood. In a balancing act, I wanted to keep the image true to life while stillbeing respectful towards the nature of the work as art. In achieving this, Ichose to alter the Chanel suit and keep the face expressionless. This piece captures Jackie frozen in time, somewhere between black and white and color, from the morning of the 22nd to the late night hours of the 23rd, and spanningfour decades.
This Doll is __ of 10. The piece is hand drawn and silk-screened in the likenessof Jackie. Each has embellished roses and hand-applied spatter adorningeach doll differently, as inspired by frames of the iconic Zapruder film of theevent.
