Peace and Conflict Studies

The Center for Peace and Conflict Studies is an organization on Ball State’s campus that aims to promote peace across the Muncie community. They often host events that aim to promote a certain idea or concept to engage students on campus and encourage interaction. These events can being anything from discussions and open forums, to a fun, group activity that promotes conversations about peace.

During the month of March, a open forum was organized. My visual communications class created postcards to hand out to students on campus to promote peace and awareness of the event. These postcards not only served to promote the event, by they were intended to encourage students to practice kind actions or just help make someone smile.

The following month a larger event was put together. We were tasked with a project that involved creating branding elements for the event and a traveling peace pole in two weeks. This pole was meant to serve as a visual reminder of peace in the community. Posters and flyers were handed out across campus to spread the word. The three day long event took place in various locations across campus where students and other members of the community were encouraged to come and participate by writing their definition of peace and adding it to the peace pole or adding their personal touch to the peace pole.
