Michigan-Land of Riches, Installation

The Michigan—Land of Riches exhibition took place in the old Grand Rapids Public Museum located at 54 Jefferson SE. It involved some 200 artists from all forms of background and media. The wall chosen for the installation was located at the end of the main hall that was covered in shag carpeting. Its appeal was its scale and texture. A quote by T.S. Eliot was selected to communicate both the history of the space and its possibilities for the future. This quote was then ‘carved’ into the shag carpet with sheep shears. The end result was not only visually impactful but gave viewers the ability to get hands on with typography.
