commonplace books
mural

Commonplace Books is the newest indie bookstore in Oklahoma City. They have created a space centered around fellowship, understanding, and conversation. A large wall in the back of the store serves as a canvas for local artists, being repainted every quarter.

In lieu of the Charlottesville riots, owner Ben Nockels wanted to make a statement. He reached out to Beagle for help deciding what to say, and the best way to say it.

This quote, by German philosopher and anti-Nazi dissident Dietrich Bonhoeffer, was more than apt. Americans were deeply dismayed after the events in Charlottesville. An ugly, uncomfortable typographic style was chosen to mirror the ugliness and discomfort of fighting racism within our communities, of calling out injustice and prejudice committed by our loved ones.

It serves as a bright, daily reminder that it is our responsibility to love and protect one another, always and without hesitation.
