Barrio Teen Center Design

Adaptive re-use teen community center in the Barrio in Tucson. The design focuses on connection - connecting the teens of the Barrio with each other, with others, with the community, with the history of the Barrio, and with new ideas and technology. The teens are connected with each other and new people through areas of social interaction, connected to the community through the community cafe and community-lead programs, connected with history through the preservation and renewal of this historical Barrio building, and connected to new ideas with instructional classes and digital technology resources. The new construction wraps and inhabits the remnant of existing adobe building.
The building is designed as an open connected space with distinct areas for different activities within.
