A bit of Outlander fan art inspired by the Fraser clan crest.

I had a few different ideas for the design and eventually settled on a leaping stag and a gold ring engraved with thistles (a symbol of Scotland). 

I worked on the design in my sketchbook, then used a piece of tracing paper to align the ring properly. I then transferred the drawings to a piece of watercolor paper. The whole process was very low-tech.

I painted with Acryla Gouache. It's a wonderful medium! It can be watered down and used in washes or used full strength for vibrant, rich colors and it has a matte finish which works really well for scanning.
