Postcards from Rosignano

Rosignano Solvay is a town near Livorno, Tuscany.
Its famous for the Solvay plant, which produces sodium bicarbonate.
Over the years, the presence of the plant has caused pollution of the coastline.
The "White Beaches" are in fact formed by the drains of the adjacent chemical industry.
For 90% it is limestone cooked and finely chopped and for about 10% calcium chloride which, resembling a very tropical beach, attract many tourists in the summer season.
Now, every weekend, the beach is invaded by thousands of tourists.
The site is one of the 15 most polluted coastal stretches of the Mediterranean
