Working from an aspect of a Moveable Feast to propose a new restaurant for a heritage building in Auckland’s CBD, through thinking about the restaurant as an experience and not just an architectural object.

This 'DINE IN SAUR' family friendly restaurant is designed to increase the intimacy and enjoyment of each customer through the dinning experience of the restaurant. The site for the project is on the ground floor of the Ashington House, located at
75-77 Wakefield Street, Auckland City.
Though my design practice I did a series of movement studies, and what I found most interesting was the movement of adults and children during a meal. Adults often likes to relax and stay put most of the time until they finish their meal. While children are much more active and do not tend to like to stay put in one place too long. During the time at the park the children would go play, come back and eat, then play again, back and forth all the time.

The perfect restaurant for a family other than a picnic in a park is a buffet restaurant. Children can pick what they like to eat and be active while adults can enjoy a meal without having to entertain the child all the time. I added the accessibility to the needs of younger children like colouring books, safety, healthy food choices, bigger toilet spaces and changing tables, clean environment and bright colours to maintain their short attention span.

After having their children’s sorted, most parents would be happy. However I also want to create an environment that doesn’t just feel like adults in a playground, but an environment where all ages can enjoy and can spend time with their family. I added funtions to my tables like a toaster so there is family activity to have fun together during a meal .
