The SMA Trust characters "Thunder & Lightning"
I was asked to create two characters for the SMA charity, a super hero named "Thunder" and a dog sidekick: "Lightning".
I took this opportunity to use gradient maps and new lighting techniques as we wanted these two illustrations to have depth and intricate detail, especially in the hair of the dog.
A particular challenge with this job was to get the proportions of the wheelchair correct as the boy character isn't drawn to scale, this meant drawing a wheelchair to fit a caricatures body.
Below are some shots of the process - Creating the skeleton in Adobe Illustrator then taking the frames into Adobe Photoshop to colour in black and white using an array of brushes, then finally adding colour using gradient maps. Extra details were added as overlays - such as freckles and logos.
