The brief was to illustrate the poem “La Belle Dame Sans Merci” by John Keats. The poem starts exactly where it finishes, like a circle, so I took this literally and merged the illustrations together in the form of a circle. The finished piece is an actual circle with the scenes of the poem seamlessly blending into one another, like the voice of the reader as the poem is recited.
The illustrations were hand drawn in black and white. Then scanned and merged in photoshop. I made a box to house the circle and poem, which in a way became as important as the illustration side of the project. It's dark and mysterious, yet delicate, it was made to feel like something to keep.
