Genetically, the human being like any other animal, has inherited the notion of territory and constantly searches to demarcate their personal space. It is common to observe that when there is     space available, even if the said space is a means of transportation, a cue or a bench at a square, the tendency is to place ourselves distanced from each other, defining our own space. The distance that each of us requires to interact are aspects of the non verbal communication that analyses "The Proxemics" (a term coined in 1963 by Dr. Edward Hall, whom investigated both fixed and semi-fixed spaces used by people).

Culture is the principal influence of The Proxemics, because it modified a person's mentality and it can affect their values, where it will determine the difference between good and evil. At the same time, other aspects like sex, status, roles, age or country of origin play important roles in the people's spatial orientation.

The proximity that should be between one individual and another is not only demarcated by the skin; it will principally depend by the circumstances and the background, because the individual will always search to develop inside of a "personal bubble" that can be translated as a safe space where it is possible to behave comfortably.

But... what happens when the limits of said bubble are being trespassed?

With this project, is intended to study specifically the behaviour of the users of the "Metro de Madrid" or Madrid's subway system, in an ambiguous context where the principal interest relays on forced situations imposed in the subway's railway carriage, that "obligation" to share a spot and the result of the uncomfortableness of the personal space being trespassed, specifically in such a big city like Madrid,  which concepts of individuality are being forced or violated by these kinds of situations, that generate feelings of intimidation or gestures that can be become more expressive or aggressive in contrast to circumstances that can be resolved to be considered comfortable to other individuals.

Thank You
