UPCD Refresher Course

This set of graphics is a commissioned work for a seminar facilitated by the University of the Philippines College of Dentistry and the Department of Health in the Philippines. The seminar is a refresher course for public health dentists in order to achieve successful dental health care for children. I was asked to make a brochure, cover and dividers for a manual, and name tags for the event.

Brochure
Initially, I was only asked to make a brochure. Since the client didn't really specify what kind of style to use for the brochure, I had a lot of creative freedom. For a brochure intended to disseminate medical information, I wanted to make it look professional while still looking minimalist and urban. I went for a geometrical style by using different sizes of triangles and gradient rectangles. I also wasn't given any photos to work with so I just went with the free stock photos.

Name Tags
I made two versions for the name tags: one with a color background and another with a white background. I was actually already pretty satisfied with the first one, but the client was concerned about the printing costs if the entire thing was colored. (Although, from what I know, the price is usually fixed when printing anything in color especially if it's only on plain paper.) Of course I had to follow what my client wants and went on making a new name tag design. Even if I prefer the first version aesthetic-wise, I think the second one I made is more straight to the point, laid back, and easier to read because of the hierarchy of text. The first version is a little forced into the style of the brochure since I was basing it off of that. The event details are also quite cramped in the triangle on the lower right. The second one is more effective in portraying its role as a name tag, while still not straying away from the style I was going for.

Manual Cover and Dividers
The manual is to be compiled in a ring binder. This one is very similar to the brochure's layout. I just reduced some of the shapes by placing them on the sides of the paper so it doesn't overwhelm the text. I made two versions of this as well: one in color and one in grayscale.
