Portrait Illustration in the style of Pablo Lobato

This project was to create a new image of an iconic figure (in this case, the character Dick Tracy) in the style of a graphic designer of our choosing. I've always been attracted to a geometric style, so Pablo Lobato seemed to fit the bill. You can see the three smaller images I studied in the middle. My final illustration is on the right. I took elements from all three of these examples for my final product.

My favorite part of this piece are the two diagonal lines that go from the top to the bottom and define a border for a change in color and define edges for parts of his face and clothing. I like to think of it as some sort of spotlight on him.

On the left is the other part of the project: a cartoon image of Dick Tracy scanned from a newspaper and cleaned up in Illustrator.
