NyQuil/DayQuil Cold Symptom Knockdown with Drew Brees

Our challenge was to reach out to Fantasy Football players and get them to engage with NyQuil and DayQuil — thus keeping these brands top of mind during the height of cough, cold and flu season (which happens to coincide with the height of the NFL season). Our solution was to run mobile ads on the top Fantasy Football sites that allowed fans to play an in-banner football game featuring NFL MVP Quarterback Drew Brees.
Once tapped, the banner expanded toallow the user to begin playing without leaving the site environment they werecurrently in – increasing the likelihood that people would play the game. Userscould choose to play a day game for DayQuil or a night game for NyQuil.
Players tested their Quarterbacking skills by throwing the product at players representing the symptoms of a cold. Drew Brees popped up throughout the game to offer encouragement for a job well done, or taunts for poor performance.
At the end of the game, Drew gave players their scouting report along with a Quarterback rating – Rookie through Hall of Famer, and challenged players to play again and beat their score.
The game was optimized for tablet and smartphone users. The end result was a game experience that leveraged our partnership with the NFL to educate consumers on the benefit of the product while letting them entertain themselves during their Fantasy Football routine. SMG praised the game for its simplicity and interaction, calling it “innovative and ground-breaking”, and the game was shown to dramatically improve brand perception and increase product purchase intent.
