Family Crest/Coat of Arms Project:
Notes:
We first brainstormed to think about all of the things that capture our family as a whole.
Some of what I wrote down was:
Korea
Michigan Football
Food
Hershey (my dog)
Family exercise
Travelling
And also that I wanted to make it a little bit more modern in appearance.
Insipration:
My inspiration for this project came mainly from the other projects we saw. I like the laurel and shield look and I think I did a pretty good job.
Final Explanation:
In the end I think my crest came out looking very cool. The hardest part of the whole project was creating the background. The Michigan football helmet wings took forever to create. I had to create the base by using a pen tool and warping the edges. But in the end it turned out looking very cool. I also like how the South Korean yin-yang is a very central part of the whole crest. This was very intentional as that is one of the biggest things that defines my family. The dog bone is representative of my dog Hershey who everyone in the family is attached to. I also think some of our best memories are from traveling and that is represented by the suitcase. I also threw some little stickers of where we have been in the world to make the suitcase less dull. The laurels I think came out great. I was testing some simplistic ones, but I don't think that fit the whole theme well. There definitely is a lot going on in my crest but then again, my family is always busy and hectic. The lettering for our name is an interesting part as well. Since my last name is so short the warping of the letters didnt quite fit with the banner. Maybe in hindsight, I should have just made the banner straight. The typeface is a font that is almost identical to the one Michigan actually uses for their football team. I think that a fancy or more sophisticated font wouldn't have fit this more casual theme. Overall, I am very happy with how it turned out.
