Kinder toy - 3D modeling and printing

Kinder Joy is a plastic egg-shaped package that contains two separately sealed halves, one with chocolate and another with a surprise toy. The toys featured with kinder joy help stimulate a child's imagination, creativity, and cognitive development. The project's brief was to design a 3D printed toy, that follows kinder toys guidelines and safety regulations. Final toy was assessed based on the idea, design, and presentation. The name speedster is a combination between speed and stamper, it is built upon the form and function of the design.

I followed a certain theme and function for the toy, and accordingly sketched some ideas. Since kids love to create or make on their own, I chose to do something that is interactive, engaging, and fun. The final concept is a cartoon looking caterpillar, with circular head and body segments. It has four wheels that are used to stamp the pattern on any paper. The front wheels are larger than the back one's, since they contain the embossed lightning bolts pattern, also, to convey a dynamic look.

Pre-model

To ensure that the toy would accurately fit in the kinder joy package, I did a 1:1 scale plasticine model. It helped better visualize the assembly process, and decide which parts are separate and which parts are connected.

Renderings

Speedster comes in two different color schemes, (purple, green, yellow), and (red, orange, yellow). I specifically chose bright shades, since they appeal more to young children, and they stand out in their field of vision.

Instructions leaflet

The instructions leaflet has a front and a back side. The front side features the toy in an environment that tells an interesting story. The back side contains easy to follow steps on the assembly instructions, and how to put all the parts together, as well as, the user guide on how to play with the toy. At the bottom of the leaflet, are the necessary safety guidelines.
