For the 2016 US Open Tennis tournament, IBM teamed up with Ogilvy NY to create the world's first Cognitive Scoreboard.

The interactive scoreboard web experience streamed hundreds of animated tiles, generated in real time as the tennis action was happening. During every match, IBM’s AI supercomputer, Watson, analyzed thousands of live scores, tweets, and articles to generate unique insights relevant to the match. The data was then fed through a workflow we designed and developed, that combined live data with custom 2D/3D data visualization animations. The tiles were rendered and uploaded into the scoreboard in minutes.

Over the course of the 14 day tournament, over 500 tiles were generated, personalized by animations based on tennis metrics, historical insights, social data, and customized dynamically with a neon-summer color palette. The scoreboard is no longer live (previously at usopen.org/ibm) but you can view some of our favorite tiles and artwork from the campaign below. Enjoy!
