IMPRS EvolBio Logo and Branding

BACKGROUND: The International Max Planck Research School for Evolutionary Biology (IMPRS Evolbio) is an international graduate school dedicated to the highest levels of research and training in all areas of contemporary Evolutionary Biology. The IMPRS is a joint collaboration between three major centers of scientific research in Schleswig-Hostein, Germany: the Max-Planck-Insitut für Evolutionsbiologie in Plön, the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel, and the GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research.

LOGO REQUIREMENTS: For this project, the IMPRS Evolbio required a logo that would professionally represent the graduate school, quickly display the school's common subject of study (evolutionary biology) as well as unify the three different organizations under its umbrella.

Logo Drafts: Early drafts and concepts of the IMPRS logo/logomark, based on the initial design brief. After two rounds of voting with comments/criticism, the final version was selected and finalized.
Final Logo: Fitting with the theme of the associated institutes in the IMPRS EvolBio, the final logo shows a phylogenetic tree, with the base of the tree representing the IMPRS and the four branches representing the many academic and career options open to graduate students once they pass through the program. It is simple and reproducible, while possessing a sleek professionalism that is expected of the IMPRS EvolBio.
Logomark Styles: Several styles of logomark were designed - a standalone logo, a trim logomark, and a full logomark containing the unabbreviated organization name.
