BSU School of Art Student Show 2017

The Ball State University School of Art Annual Student Show is dedicated to presenting artwork produced by students for their curriculum during the past academic year, and give them an opportunity to participate in a juried exhibition. In February 2017, the School of Art celebrated its 82nd Annual Student Show with more than one hundred and eighty submissions. The exhibited work comprised of a broad range of projects from sculpture, ceramics, painting, printmaking, graphic design, photography, drawings and new media.
While serving as a faculty in the Graphic Design area at BSU School of Art, I was invited to brand the annual Student Show 2017. To create the look and feel of this annual Student Show, I wanted to portray a design that celebrates the creative work by the hardworking and talented students of School of Art. While researching themes to reflect this multifaceted creative environment, I used hexagonal shape to create a dynamic, vibrant, and layered typographic solution. The hexagonal shape is associated with beehives and bees — creatures known for their co-operative, hard-working, and community-oriented nature. Using this design, I established a theme across a variety of print collaterals including posters, postcards, award certificates, program guides, and the gallery signage.
