Mongrel Books is an independent publisher based in Karachi, Pakistan, "committed to original voices and compelling stories".
My work for them as a graphic designer has encompassed their logo & branding, digital marketing posts, and book design for their three publications to date: an anthology titled The Mongrel Book of Voices, Volume I: Breakup; Sidra F. Sheikhs's The Light Blue Jumper, a sci-fi comedy of errors; and a collection of short-stories by Sarim Baig called Saints and Charlatans.
Mongrel Books' first release, the anthology, includes poetry, prose and a comic from 21 different writers from 9 different countries on the theme of Breakups. The visual language for the launch of this book as well as for Mongrel Books as a fresh, new publishing house in Karachi needed to be bright and bold matched with minimalism in order to be memorable.
The logo, in particular, attempts to visualise the brand name as an icon that is simultaneously warm and friendly- showing the openess of Mongrel Books as a publisher simply looking for "original voices and compelling stories"- as well as sharp and no-frills to show that they still mean business.
