The principle of the “camera obscura” is replaced by a physical phenomenon of straightness of light, i.e. the light travels in a straight line and for this reason any object placed in front of the camera will be represented within this through the hole.
Based on this principle, the artists simplify the work of copy objects and scenes, using cameras with different formats and sizes. They would put themselves inside the camera itself and earned the image reflected in a screen or parchment stuck on the opposite wall of the housing bore.
It is not difficult to imagine the following steps of this evolution: a lens, placed in the hole, improved the utilization of light; a mirror was adapted to fold down the image on the screen; mechanisms have been developed to facilitate the framing of the subject. With these and other improvements, the box has become increasingly smaller and the artist already working on the outside, by tracing the image protected by a dark cloth. But, the feature of the lens in place of a simple orifice was designed, as already said, by a scientist from Naples, Giovani Battista Della Porta.
The box, enhanced with a mirror provisions in diagonal to the fund, has helped painters the view from near the object to be designed, at least 150 years before the discovery of photography. With the discovery of this photograph principle, camera obscura continued to be used, but increasingly making use of the optical evolution and the appearance of faster films. In the twentieth century, we have seen progress for camera, in terms of portability and fast use, but also more sensitive and durable materials. It is based on the principle of the “camera obscura” and later accompanied by an optical prism, that the photographer Abelardo Morell, realizes his best-known work, "Camera Obscura" from 1991 to 2010, my main reference.
The entire work of Abelardo Morell, revolves around the principle of “camera obscura”, he being performed within hotels, bedrooms , rooms, etc, or even on the street, giving use a tent, "Trend Camera" 2010. Still conducts other projects, where once more demand projections, those being created by nature or by Man.
The project that I am presenting is a work about rooms and the outside world and the relationship between the interior/exterior, between private versus public of each one of these rooms. The term "public" refers to two distinct moments although related.
In the first place, the term "public" focuses on the idea of accessibility: everything that comes from the public and is accessible to all: can be seen and heard by all.
In second place, the term "public" focuses on the idea of common. The reality of the world has a common good or common interest of artefact and human affairs, in so far as it is
shared by individuals who relate among themselves. Already the term "private", refers us to the restriction.
Leads us to two accessions of the word, one for what is restricted, only accessible to some, another often hidden and preserved only for ourselves. In this work, i offer a selection of 8 rooms where we witnessed a public space moulded with a private space.
There is still the possibility that we are dealing with a scene of “inverse voyeurism” by how the image of the outside world merges with the inner world of each room and the way that almost forced the image, it forces us to look to the centre leaving the penumbra of the edges. We can subsequently, through this work carry out a careful analysis, the relationship that exists between the interior of each room, the decor, the layout of all the objects and the way people relate to their room versus the projected image from the outside, the outdoor space while influential living "image “of every inhabitant of the room.
For the accomplishment of this work, a study of the room had to be made, in order to see if it has relevance to my work in order to make the work more diversified. As soon as this phase is completed i start to build the “camera obscura” inside the bedroom in order to achieve the projection of the outside landscape.
This projection of the exterior is obtained based on the same principles of the “camera obscura”. Due to the principle of the straightness of light, the light travels in a straight line and for this reason the image that any person sees, in this case, from the window of their room, it is projected on the opposite wall.
In order to create these images, I cover the window with garbage plastic bags, in order to prevent any light. After that i create a hole from where the light will go through. As soon as all the conditions are created anyone inside the room will see the outsider projection and in this case i will photograph with my digital camera the projection created with a long exposure.
