“Memories”
Shoeboxes, lightweight, expendables, banal, recyclable were often the "chest" of our memories.
The "box" was both a photographic archive family also as a metaphor for us. These boxes were the refuge of many images of family, these images at that time for reasons sociological was seen almost as a duty to register and that in the great majority of cases, were presented exclusively the images of marriage and certain portraits, everything else, such as, for example, photographs of deceased would not tabled and would be stored in that box "religiously".
The pictures of ceremonies were too solemn or intimate to be displayed in the space of everyday life and the most appropriate place for them was or the noble bay, the living room, or, for the more intimate, as the photos of deceased relatives, the fourth, along religious images, such as the crucifix and the branch blessed.
The concept of this "shoe box", its meaning, the presentation, damaged images, documenting a past and serve to link, as also are based on registration, social mentalities, of forms of social awareness, of ways of seeing the world, live in it and understand it.
It is by means of photographs, homemade that each family builds a chronicle family, a witness who demonstrates the family relationships between photographed people. A language of family album is personal and emotionally involved says more about the people who are photographed.
Is more than anything a stimulus to memory, reconstruct narrative moments separated from our history, presented in a re-collection.
As the memory cannot store everything, there is a selection whose filter is the good memories, those that the persons want to compose theirs identities.
Each time that we asked about ourselves, we have created a fantasy, a world of selections, fragments of our journey that have earned a place in memory because it fulfilled the role of being recognized by others.
The photos are the materialization of our past, arouse us sensations and meanings of the past in the present and it is interesting watching the fact of photography allow us to distance, in some cases, more than 40 years, the reconstruction of a time, allowing the understanding of life and of a period that consequently the author is inserted.
After having discovered a box quite old and degraded, (containing inside family photos, and other objects related to the same topic), I went for a work of reproduction of documents, images of family and I want with this project, to bring the public to that at the end of all this the visitor can create its own history, its own narrative and review in my work.
