Personal Branding – Here Comes Kangye

Background

Creating your own personalised logo and branding is probably one of the toughest tasks any designer will face. However, having my own personal brand has always been on my mind since the day I decided to take up design as a profession. After years of honing my skills and developing my craft, I felt it was high time I accomplished a milestone in my career and decided to create a kickass logo.

Logo Concept

Design is volatile regardless of which design industry you’re from, which is why continual learning is so important in this profession. It helps keep my perspective relevant and open-minded so that I can empathise with the people I’m designing for.

When I first started out in the industry, I would design based on my intuition. It was only after years of resilience and experience that I had realised I was designing for the people (人) all along.

Color Palette

While I was doing some research, I discovered that the origin of my name "Kendrick" was derived from an Old English name "Cyneric", which means "Royal Power" or "Family Ruler”. This triggered me to look for a colour palette that is associated with royalty (purple and blue).

Based on the psychology of colours, Purple is often associated with royalty and is akin with creativity, dignity, and imagination. Blue is one of the universally acceptable colours that evokes a sense of trust, dependability, and professionalism.

As a result, the two colours were chosen to echo the qualities that I wanted to represent as a designer.
