The New York Mets - Committed to Honoring Veterans

An accomplished athlete, Andrew (Drew) Horun competed in wrestling as a student at Phillipsburg High School in New Jersey. In addition to participating in wrestling and other fitness activities, Andrew Horun enjoys supporting New York sports teams, including the Mets of Major League Baseball.

The Mets maintain a number of community outreach programs, including special programs for military personnel and veterans. For example, at every home game at Citi Field, the Mets honor the “Veteran of the Game” by presenting a military veteran with a U.S. flag. Further, the team honors the veteran by sharing his or her military achievements with the crowd through Citi Vision, the stadium’s video system.

Another way the Mets honor military personnel is through the Military Softball Classic, which brings together members of various branches of the armed forces to play at Citi Field. In 2016, participants in the event were able to stay afterwards for the Mets game. The next Classic is scheduled for August 31, 2017.
