The future of publishing since 1584
I was approached by Tom O'Reilly at Cambridge University Press who was looking for a way to set some XML in letterpress. The Press has been in continual production since 1584, the very infancy of book production in the UK at a time when all work would be handset letterpress. Now things are very different, but how would it look to have some XML code set in lead as one of the cover images advertising their advanced workflow practices?
The front of the final leaflet. An interesting concept to bend the minds of coders;
a
 meeting of the analogue and digital ends of type, the old and the new.
The Press were so happy with the result they are considering having some posters made too.

Ready to start setting my XML code in 10pt Univers medium.
Not a computer in sight!
I used lower case V's turned 90 degrees with a medium space either side to make the angle brackets required.
Very fiddly.
This is one of my first proofs.
Looking good.
One of the photos taken by the Cambridge University Press using a macro lens.
Hundreds were taken to get the right one for the leaflet cover.
The inside image is one of my photos of the original proof.
A great project to be involved with, thanks Tom O'Reilly for the opportunity.
