Resistance Indoor 2016 Member Shirts

Based out of Oklahoma City, OK, Resistance Indoor Percussion is an organization that performs in Winter Guard International’s Independent Open Class. For their 2016 season the group performed ‘Darkness and Nothing More,’ based on the works of Edgar Allan Poe.

The goal of this project was to create a shirt design for current members that was both consistent with the show’s thematic concepts and that would compliment their drum hardware and member accessories. This unique challenge required that the design be just as clear when the group was performing as it was when outside of a performance context.

The starting point for the design came from the unique shape of Pearl’s CX Airframe drum carriers. This outward flow was essential to shaping the final design.

The overall course of the show was described as that of an “opiate-induced nightmare,” being entirely cerebral in nature. This was illustrated in the stylization of the raven, imposing and dominant yet hollow and spectral, composed entirely of organic tissue and interwoven synapses. The raven imposed upon the rocking chair was a core visual element of the show, creating a direct tie for viewers.  The raven also opened towards the unique membership dogtags that the group wears.
