Software Engineering Kipling Prank – Snapchat Geofilter

Software Engineering Kipling Prank – Snapchat Filter

Every year, as part of the Kipling Ceremony in which graduating engineering students in Canada receive their iron rings, students play small pranks on campus to celebrate. Last year, the graduating class of Software Engineering students asked for my help to design a Snapchat geofilter for everyone to use as they get their rings.

Below, you'll find some images from my process in designing the filter, as well as a couple examples of the final filter in use. Enjoy!
One of my first iterations of the filter. We ultimately found the blue to be too contrasting, and eventually chose a lighter weight of the font.
Another iteration of the filter, this time overlaid on a situation we'd hoped people would use the filter for.
This design was much closer to the final design than the one that follows.
We also experimented with a filter that uses up the top and bottom of the screen. However, the text felt a little too lonely inside the ring on its own, so we decided to keep the ring and ribbon together.
The final filter design, in use at the event.
Another screenshot of the filter in use, this time featuring the two who reached out to me to design it for them!
