THE DESIGN CHALLENGE
My group and I were tasked to create a product for the consumer market integrating a Federal Mogul patent, in this case US08445874. The patent is a protective flexible mono-filament braid. As it is supposed to encase cords, connection points in engines, and the like my team and I saw an opportunity to use it in combination with in-ear headphones that are prone to breaking.
THE MARKET
The headphone market was worth 3,100,000,000 in 2015 making it an ideal market to tackle. The market segment targeted is 18-30 year olds living athleisure lifestyles in the city.
The project won the Federal Mogul Student Innovation Competition and we received our award at the 2016 Verizon Philadelphia University Celebration of Innovation gala.
