Tiger Tattoo
Something new and different please?
This project came to me through a friend. I was asked if I could make a tattoo of a tiger in an almost pounce position, but not to illustrate it the way many tiger tattoos have been designed. The twist was that the client wanted the tiger to become part of his body and not just a mark, and wanted the tattoo on his side. The complexity of this project is what motivated me. I started to look at many different tiger tattoo variations and started to understand the client's desire more.

So, into the drawing room I went and I came up with this concept which worked out beautifully. The concept was almost tribal. Tribal tattoos have a tendency to wrap around an arm or body part and accentuate the mark and body part at the same time. I wanted this same effect, but my problem was I was using an entire animal and not just an aspect of the animal.

The final result was a drawing of a tiger utilizing his stripes to form the body, legs, and face using this tribalesque style. The tiger is also in a slight pounce position with the tail wrapping up and around the shoulder blade. When this tattoo is seen from the front view it looks like it is abut to pounce and leap off the body. From the profile view it was a more calm look. What makes this tattoo work well is the way it uses the client's body to create the positive or negative shapes of the tiger.
