After Effects

Online research:
1) Who is Ken Burns and what is the Ken Burns Effect? Ken Burns is filmmaker from America, known for using photographs and archival footage for documentaries. The Ken Burns effect is a camera technique used on still imagery, involving zooming and panning.
2) Name 3 projects that might incorporate this effect. A documentary that only involved still pictures, a documentary that used portraits of people and drawn representations of things, and a screensaver background on a computer desktop.
3) What is parallax? Parallax is the effect where the direction or position of a thing changes when viewed in a different position.

Video Research:
1) What is the Ken Burns effect? When is it used in video projects? The Ken Burns effect is a camera technique used on still imagery, involing zooming and panning.

2) Name the three main areas in the After Effects workspace. The project panel panel, the composition panel, and the effects and presets panel.

3) What are two ways to import media into a project? Import media by doubleclicking the project pane open space, or File >Import File.

4) Name two ways to create a composition. Create a composition by Composition > New composition, or Control + N.

5) What is an element? An element is an additional layer you can add onto a video (text, image, etc).

6) What is the difference between dragging an element into the monitor and dragging an element into the timeline? Dragging an element into the timeline chooses when it is placed, dragging into the monitor chooses where it’s placed.

7) Name four keyboard shortcuts. Control + N (new composition), Control + I (import file), S (scale object), P (position of layer).

8) Why would you want to solo an element while working on a composition? Soloing elements are useful so one can colour correct or do whatever they wish.

9) What do the time code numbers represent, in order from largest to smallest? Time code numbers represent hours, minutes, seconds, frames.

10) What is a keyframe? A keyframe is a marker that remembers position data of layer of that time.

11) What are the "three simple steps" to creating an animation in After Effects? The three simple steps are first keyframe, move forward in time, then make changes you like for next keyframe.

12) How and why would you reduce the playback resolution in the monitor? It speeds up render time and makes it available to work quicker.

12A) What is a solid, and how do you create one? A solid is a layer of colour in a shape such as a circle or square
