University of Essex Summer School in Social Science Data Analysis responsive website design and development. Starting with a redesigned logo we created a fresh, contemporary look intended to encapsulate the innovation and reputation for excellence of Essex Summer School.
We established imperatives for the web presence; Essex Summer School wanted to engage with Doctoral and Masters students as well as postdoctoral students and their supervisors, Researchers, Universities and university departments, providing necessary and sufficient information. We quickly identified that ESS current site had an unusable information architecture including:
- Inconsistent and unclear navigation

- Multiple versions of the same information – needing to be updated multiple times.
Essex Summer School required a modern Content Management System (CMS) which they all use to edit the web pages, upload images, insert links and adding, moving and deleting pages. In summary, the new Essex Summer School site is:
- Easier to navigate with intuitive menus
- Easier to find information where you expect it
- Consistent
- Fully accessible on mobile devices
- Attractive and contemporary in design
The website was launched and has attracted excellent feedback.
