Michel Bouvet Workshop

From a 2-day workshop with internationally renowned designer Michel Bouvet, we were briefed to create a poster to exhibit at Edinburgh’s French Institute - linking to the theme “Scotland is an old country. Scotland is a new country.”
I decided to take an abstract approach to the design. The organic concentric circles refer to tree rings - a symbol of Scotland’s legendary and ancient natural environment.  In contrast to this, the perfect concentric circles directly refer to radar (a ground-breaking Scottish discovery) but also symbolises technology as a whole due to Scotland pioneering the way in a number of sectors of the digital world. The juxtaposition of these ideas aims to show the contrast that “Scotland is an old country. Scotland is a new country.”
