The Modern Nomad (Collection 1)

The Modern Nomad is inspired by the nomadic Berber tribe. The Berber's are located primarily in Morocco. While researching this culture of people, I found myself drawn to their ornate garb that is worn in their daily lives and at their festivals. The juxtaposition of their style of dress and the vast harsh climates they are living is where most of my inspiration was pulled from. Imported trims and appliqués from East Asia are hand sewn to each of the looks, along with hand done fabric blocking, fabric dyeing, and embroidery. The jacquard fabric that the Jacket is created out of, is a collaboration fabric made by myself and a textile designer. The jacquard has textural elements like fringe to play off of the textiles the Berbers hand make. It also has a detailed pattern, which was inspired by traditional Moroccan tiles and their hand made ceramics. Heavy embellishment and fabric manipulation was a very important aspect for The Modern Nomad Collection.
