Cabinet of Curiosities

The Cabinet of Curiosities was an assignment commisioned by Scylla  (http://www.scylla.ch/en), which consisted of finding a new concept for a riviercruiseship. Inspired by a cupboard by Tejo Remy (http://www.remyveenhuizen.nl/work/furniture/chest-drawers-you-cant-lay-down-your-memory), and in combination with the personal desire to focus the passengers attention on the riverbed itself too, the Cabinet of Curiosities came to life.

In the Cabinet of Curiosities, the passengers reside in a curatorial looking room, where the smallest details of nature are not only enlarged, but also given a new function (such as a birds egg in which you can shower) and therefore deserve a place on their own stage.
The boat itself has been equipped with PV-cells along the entire length of the roof, in order to absorb the sunlight and convert it into energy.  There is also a hydrogenmotor on board and all the food consumed is bought locally in order to reduce transportation costs.
The result is an overall fairytale-like experience during which Scylla does not only make the journey itself a more adventurous experience, but also playfully imparts lessons about sustainability.
