Brisbane Pride is an annual event that allows the greater Queer community in Brisbane and its surrounds to celebrate their individuality, stand up against mistreatment and oppression, and share their colour. That is exactly what I was aiming to depict within this image.

REASONING – I chose to implement a black and white mask over the original image, then erasing it over selected flags, balloons and banners, all showcasing bright colours. This image symbolises the colour that helps gay, queer, trans and nonbinary individuals to stay ahead of all the hate and mistreatment that exists in Australia at the moment. Highlighting these bright colours provides a sense of relief from the black and white experience that is every day life. I particularly like this image as it also symbolises those colourful people who are expected to dim their colour to meet societal norms, yet choose to do the opposite.

REFLECTION – I’m content with the final result of this image as I believe it provides an interesting message, whilst maintaining a pleasing aesthetic.
