Learning Commons for Chartwell Elementary school

Chartwell school is keen to integrate the culture and history of the first nations in the design of the learning commons. Since Chartwell is located on the North West Coast of Canada where there are a variety of aboriginal legends and stories. There are many and diverse narrations of animals stories.
A raven’s calls can express tenderness, happiness, surprise, and emotions and its consider the most intelligent bird. It displays high learning ability and use of logic for solving problems. They are also known to be very playful. In the aboriginal stories, the raven teaches people about life, and right from wrong. The raven is also the bringer of light as it is said that the raven releases the sun and the moon. Often the raven has been misconstrued in our culture,  misjudged by its appearance.
Inspired by the Raven, the design expresses freedom, uniqueness, individuality and team work. It will inspired communication and rapport. It will help people not to judge a book by the cover.
For the design of the learning commons the school will use a palette of cold grey neutral colours. Studies show that neutral colours help to keep kids calm and focused, therefore perhaps accents of purple and teal. The furniture is to be modular to give more flexibility and liberty to rearrange as needed.
