Spoleto city hub

The project proposes a possible and desirable scenario, through the reusing of an “urban void”. This has represented since 1920s an economical and social reality, significantly important for the citizenship, which preserves the historical memory of it.

The state of the art in the Umbrian valley industrial archeology shows that for this kind of artifacts the risk of oblivion, loss and extinction is really high.

The former Typography Panetto & Petrelli is located in a boundary framework, between Colle Risana and the steady city, in a valley which since 300 has been subjected to an anthropization process, which has led to the rising of the street surface and to the concreting of the riverbed of Staffolo creek.

The adopted metaphor of “to build in the built” is typical of the city acropolis. Spoleto evolved over time in layers, by subsequent modifications and stratifications. Depending on the plan, the new tracks outlines in the pre-existent plot volumes and blanks, which recovers some of the original features of the plant and allow the permeability of the area, increasing the perception from the outside and offering inedited views on the city.
The purpose of this project is to propose itself as a catalyst of the various different flows, stimulated by heterogeneous but compatible functions, suggesting a view of the city full of relations.
