Rupert Nicholson's profile

Isle of Harris and Lewis, Outer Hebrides.

This is the first section, covering Lewis, which is the Northern part of the Isle of Harris. Lewis is more renowned for its rough North Western coast, where stormy atlantic waves bash the coast, and have  produced Sea Stacks, smooth rounded boulders of Granites and Gneiss, which are sometimes deposited high up the cliffs. In stormy weather the waves are many metres high, when they crash on the shore.
Lewis is also famous for the Bronze age stones, as found at Callanish. The central stone in the first picture is over 16 feet high. These stones are Gneiss rock, and this local rock series is over 1000 Million years old (Pre-Cambrian)

This is the second section covering Harris. This area lies to the south of the island, and there is some of the finest low lying sandy beaches in the world, as seen at Seillebost, Luskentyre and Huisinish. Harris also has interesting mountains in the West, and a very rocky area, south of Tarbert on the East side of the island, facing the Minch.
