Home Improvement Scheme

Boab Design was engaged by the Department of Business to create a name and visual identity for their $20m voucher scheme. The scheme provides homeowners with vouchers to employ local businesses to do minor improvements, upgrades and repairs to their homes. The scheme requires all tradies who want to provide services to register online through the scheme website.

The success of the scheme is dependant on tradies signing up to the scheme and homeowners registering for the vouchers. This interdependent relationship informed the visual identity concept that uses colour to differentiate the collateral for each target audience, while utilising simple tool graphics to clearly communicate the idea of building and maintenance.

The scheme was launched at the end of May 2016. The initial launch was only for tradies to register, with homeowners needing to wait until 1 July to register. However, the huge success of this initial launch prompted the Department of Business to bring forward the homeowner registration date to 5 June. “The Home Improvement Scheme has captured the attention of the Territory…[t]he take up has been phenomenal after we fast-tracked it by almost a month due to it overwhelming popularity” Peter Style, Minister for Business.

Within the first month 943 Tradies had applied to register with the scheme and 560 homeowners voucher application had been received with a total value of work of $2.73m.
