"Artists of the Outback" - Exhibition in Canberra 2012

"Artists of the Outback"
Group Exhibition at Aarwun Galleries in Canberra ACT Australia
A recent trip into Western Australia and the Bungles Bungles left me reeling so full of passion, red earth, ironstones and big blue skies that I came home and just started to expunge the colours onto canvas and paper. It's the most magical landscape I have been in with the air gowing with crisp clean notes, clear colours of the brightest of hues and those reds, from dawn to dusk, boy! they make you want to sing! I have to say the Bungles Bungles are amazing! Hope you enjoy my images of this ancient and mystical land..... but then why not pop into the Aarwun Galleries in Canbverra and see them for yourself.... the computer screen (and my crappy photography) doesn't do the artworks justice! cyu there! opens 29 June 2012!
"Big Red and Moon" - the first sand dune on the Simpson Desert..... this is executed in oils, acrylics on 100% cotton rag paper. 52 cm wide x 70 cm high - The painting is floated on white mounts with a simple white frame that allows your own personal choice of framing to be added! Framed size 80 cm wide x 100 cm high

Framed size 80 cm wide x 100 cm high - my crappy photography here doesn't do it justice! Sorry but these three would make a great triptych!
"Birth of a Salt Lake" - this is executed in oils, acrylics on 100% cotton rag paper. 68 cm wide x 48 cm high - The paintingframed with double white mounts with a simple white frame that allows your own personal choice of framing to be added!
"Desert Glow WA" - a smaller work but once again floated with double white mounts and simple white frame.
"Desert / Reflactions of Night" - Mixed media on canvas - 60 cm wide x 30 cm high - this painting shows the night sky reflected in floods across the red desert plains as seen from above. Again, due to the colours used, the photography doesn't help..... I will need to improve my skills in this area!
"Ironstone and Blue Gums WA" - watching the fleeting landscape out the window of the 6WD, I was captivated by not only the colour, but the movement and patterning of the flwoing ironstone ridge and gum saplings..... in this I aimed to capture the idea of movement and colour of the WA landscape - mixed media (oils and acrylics) on Strathmore paper - image size 70 cm wide x 52 cm high - framed double white mounts and simple white frame.
"Land / Dune" - acrylic on canvas - a small work of 30 cm x 30 cm in size - just to capture the glow of the ironstone as the sun disappears over the horizon and the land falls into night.
"Desert / Campsite" - acrylics on canvas - small work to capture the last embers of campfire as the night falls..... is that night itself looking over the land? I wonder - 30 cm x 30 cm
"Land / Flooding" - this small work shows how vast the creeks (? - yes we call them creeks!) are when the floods come down - our creeks go from a trickle in the landscape to a vast, sometimes 100 kms wide soggy soaking matrix of flood waters. It's how our landscape works here in Oz, quite different to other continents and we still do not know how to manage it! Acrylics on canvas 30 cm x 30 cm
"Land / Marks - Water" - the last in a series of paintgs called "LAND / MARKS" - they've all sold! Wonderful! This last one shows the red earth from an aerial perspective, a waterhole and animal tracks - mixed media on Strathmore oil paper - it just glows but again, very difficult to photograph! 70 cm wide x 52 cm - floated with double white mount and plain white frame.
"Pindan Cliffs WA" - the pindan soils of Broome and across the top end of WA have to be seen to be believed! They absolutely blew me away and thy are still speaking through my images - with their deep reds and purples, bright oranges and earthy browns, the pindan soils are really beautiful! This is a mixed media (oil and acrylic) on canvas, framed in double white mounts and sinmple white frame. Image size 48 cm wide x 89 cms high - framed size 85 cms wide x 105 cms high
"Spirit of ancient landscape" - In this smaller work on Strathmore oil paper, I imagined the flow and colours of the Bungles Bungles as they formed across the land. The ranges have an inherent spiritual quality that shws the timelessness and ease of the land, it's grace and energy encapsulated in this flow..... truly a fabulous sight from the air! Image size: 70 cm wide x 26 cm high - floated with double white mounts and simple white frame. Framed size: please ask.
