This apartment is located in the Buda hills, on the first floor of a brick three-story building. When Oliver found this place he fell in love with the whole environment - both the beautiful view to the hills and the atmosphere of the rooms.

The original space had a cozy functional connection with 40-year-old structures and materials. As Oliver wanted to let the flat to others, his goal was clear: to renew the space with high quality materials and structures and create a home for its future residents.

The design challenge was to dream a home for someone whom we didn’t yet know. We specified simple and ageless elements as a frame for different tastes and lifestyles. In the rooms we covered the floor with classic oak and painted the walls a bright white - nothing else. Future inhabitants will easily place their personal furniture and decorations in this timeless environment.

We handled the bathroom and the kitchen differently, as these two spaces have built-in elements and we had to add some character.

The bathroom got glossy white surfaces and a freestanding bathtub and floor-mounted basin to achieve two ends -- the small room became both spacious and also perfect for housing personal toiletries.

There are always two ways you can treat a home’s kitchen. It can either be a part of the living space or closed off from it as a separate enclosure. Fortunately, in this case, we didn’t have to decide because this kitchen’s situation lent itself to both solutions. We simply made wider doors, thereby creating gates between the spaces. Installing opaque double-sliding glass doors allows anyone to open the kitchen up to the rest of the space at will.
