These are selections from a series of posters to promote the Oxfam Hunger Banquet at Montgomery College in Montgomery County, Maryland. Montgomery College does outreach work with its sister school in India, setting up preschool facilities for local children.
Montgomery College faculty took the photographs of the children depicted while staying with the kindergarten classes. They then wanted to use the photos to promote an Oxfam Hunger Banquet that would help further the school's mission in India.
The photos were very moving, so I wanted to feature them as prominently as possible. The kids would really be the face of the campaign. I made them as big as possible, filling up the space. The text frames the children's faces in a grid. The headline text points right to the child, so the viewer is guided right to their eyes. The curved frame around the images suggests we are looking at them through a window, separated. It also fulfills a practical need: the posters would also be reduced to 8 1/2 x 11 fliers and distributed on campus, printed on desktop printers by faculty. This way there's no cutoff of a page printed by a consumer inkjet printer incapable of printing to the page's edge.
