FIRST YEAR PROJECT
DEVELOPED IN COLLABORATION WITH ELAINE TAT
ABOVE : BOTH PANELS FOR STAGE ONE SIDE BY SIDE (MINE ON THE LEFT AND MY PARTNER'S ON THE RIGHT)
STAGE ONE OF THE PROJECT RELIED ON ANALYSIS OF AN EXISTING STAIRCASE. WE CHOSE THE MUSEE DES BEAUX ARTS IN MONTREAL FOR OUR ANALYSIS AND TRIED TO ENGAGE WITH THE BEAUX ARTS TRADITIONS PRESENT IN NOT ONLY THE BUILDING BUT ALSO THE ORIGINAL DRAWINGS WHICH WE HAD THE PLEASURE OF ENCOUNTERING IN AN ARCHIVE ON MCGILL'S CAMPUS. THIS EXERCISE WAS THE FIRST WE ENCOUNTERED IN CLASSICAL DRAFTING, ISOMETRIC DRAWING AND SURVEYING.

STAGE TWO OF THE PROJECT PRESENTED A RADICAL TRANSITION WHERE WE WERE ASKED TO DESIGN A STAIRCASE THAT WOULD FIT INTO A PRE-EXISTING CONTEXT. IN THIS CASE THAT CONTEXT WAS LE CORBUSIER'S UNITÉ D'HABITATION IN MARSEILLE. WE WERE ASKED TO DEVELOP THIS IN THE MANNER OF A PERSONAL FAVOURITE ARCHITECT. OUR FINAL CHOICE WAS KAZUYO SEJIMA. THE PRESENTATION CONSISTED OF TWO PANELS HOWEVER THE ONE OF MY PROJECT PARTNER IS NOT IN MY RECORDS SO I PRESENT MY INDIVIDUAL PANEL MORE AS AN EXPLORATION IN GRAPHIC DESIGN AND PERSPECTIVE DRAWING THAN AS A WHOLE COMPOSITION
