After a successful collaboration with NBC Sports on their 2016 Rio Summer Olympics Identity, we were fortunate at Trollbäck to be commissioned to develop the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics in South Korea.
Partnering again with designer Aya Kotake, we were challenged to design a very "minimalist" identity that would still present a strong sense of movement, energy and spirit for the Winter Games.
Another unique challenge was working with the 11-character name of the Asian host city. The geometric alphabet of South Korea eventually informed the subtle details of the type design, while the repetition of shape evokes sweeping mountain peaks, traditional folding hand fans and the lines of pagodas.
