A conceptual and sequential, poster experiment.
In the fall of my freshmen year, I had hit a complete design block. I was enrolled in basic design level classes where all of my designs consisted of contrast, linear elements, and other simple - yet important - design elements. It was also during this time that the media went crazy over New Jersey governor, Chris Christie. Although he did not end up enrolling in the presidential race, his straight-forward and logical take on politics inspired me to create a concept poster for his possible campaign.
I knew from the start that I wanted a straightforward design, something that coincided with Christie's own ideals. I also made the decision to make the entire composition type based. Most "non-official" political posters these days resemble the Obama "Hope" poster from 2008 and I did not want to blend in with the crowd. In the shape of a check-mark, this design clearly conveys the message to vote for Christie without using the word "vote." Telling someone to vote is a command, a forced gesture; by not issuing a command, the posters convey a certain openness that is pleasing to the viewer.
I say that this series is sequential because the posters are to be displayed side by side in a red-white-blue order. This is the first time I actually thought about different compositions interacting with each other in an environment and I enjoyed this project thoroughly.
